2017 Oceania Junior Championships – WA Results

Western Australian juniors were some of the few shining lights in what was a somewhat disappointing performance by the Australian contingent at the 2017 Oceania Junior Squash Championships held at Henderson Squash Club in New Zealand.

Of the ten events conducted, New Zealand won eight with Singapore and Australia winning only one apiece. Sze Yu Lee from New South Wales was Australia’s only winner taking out the Under 15 Girls title (the irony being that she does not get a mention in the Australian Junior Rankings)

By finishing in the top four in their respective Age Groups, Remi Young, Oscar Curtis, Erin Classen and Dylan Classen again evidenced the developing Western Australian strength in the younger age divisions

Western Australian Player Performances

Remi Young won four Boys Under 15’s matches before losing 1/3 to Leo Fatialofa (New Zealand) in the final.

Oscar Curtis won all his matches in the Boys Under 13’s 3/0 before losing 1/3 to Edward Thng (Singapore) in the final.

Erin Classen won through to the Girls Under 13’s semi-final but lost to Natalie Sayes 1/3 before winning the third place playoff against Ella Lash (New Zealand) 3/0.

Dylan Classen reached the Boys Under 13’s semi-final before losing 0/3 to eventual winner Edward Boon Hwi Thng. Dylan then lost 1/3 in the third place playoff to Mason Smales (New Zealand).

Jade Woods won her first match 3/0 in the Girls Under 17’s but lost her remaining matches to finish 8th overall.

Kiran Byles lost his qualification match 1/3 in the Boys Under 15’s before winning his next three matches to take out the Division 1 plate.
