Western Australia has again finished as runner up in the 2017 Australian Junior Teams Championships, behind Queensland who have now won fourteen years in a row.
Our efforts to claim the overall title were hampered by illness to our No.1 Boys Under 17’s (Abel Jin) who was unable to participate for most of the tournament. We were however, magnificently led by our three 2017 Individual Champions (Gregory Chan – Boys Under 15’s, Erin Classen – Girls Under 15’s and Oscar Curtis – Boys Under 13’s) who all remained undefeated after the Teams Event.
We also had the distinction of winning two Age Groups (Under 17’s & Under 15’s) with New South Wales (Under 19’s) and Queensland (Under 13’s) winning one apiece.
- Under 15’s – Our team of Gregory Chan, Eric Gray, Dylan Classen, Erin Classen, Isabella French and Michaela Pratt dominated the Age Group to finish 1st.
- Under 17’s – Despite the limited involvement of our No. 1 Boy and a loss to Queensland in the final round, our team of Abel Jin, Remi Young, Oscar Lindsey, Pascale Louka, Anita Tsangaris and Jamie Tsangaris managed to sneak across the line and finish 1
- Under 13’s – Our team of Oscar Curtis, Kaleb Sands, Mitchell Ferrari, Caitlin Pratt, Isla Harris and Eva French produced some excellent performances before being pipped by Queensland in the final round to finish 2nd.
- Under 19’s – Our young team of Callum Blakey, Trey Mackenzie, Ethan Baldwin-Wright, Kiara Rogers, Jade Woods and Isabella Diver (all will be eligible again next year) fought valiantly but found the opposition tough to finish 6th.
