2022 Cambridge Junior Teams Challenge (17-18 September)

60 juniors from across the Perth metropolitan area competed over the weekend at the 2022 Cambridge Junior Teams Challenge.  The club-based teams played four matches in total; two on Saturday, one on Sunday, and then played off once more for 1st/2nd and 3rd/4th.

Tournament director Tim Cowell was impressed by the undeniable improvement of players, many of whom had never played in a competition environment before.

Tournament referee Luke Jamieson stated that the behaviour and sportsmanship he had witnessed was fantastic.

There were a number of matches that had spectators at the edge of their seat with sweaty palms.  Exciting five-setters occurred between Millard Chong (Mirrabooka) and Domenic Christou (Vic Park), Nathan Webb (Marmion) and Shaun Congrene (Cambridge), and Matthew Black (Cambridge) and Mathys Edery (Marmion/Mirrabooka).

Presentations kicked off at around 3pm on Sunday and were conducted by Tim, Luke, and Cambridge Squash Club President James Barr.  An encouragement award was presented to Chelsea Hawke, a competition first for her, while a sportsmanship award was presented to Vera Bruce who was placed in a very tough draw.  Full results HERE.

Tournament organisers are extremely grateful to Squashworld Cambridge, Cambridge Squash Club, Dunlop and The Racquet Shop for helping to run such a smooth and fantastic event.  Lastly, special shout out to Tim for all of his work behind the scenes leading up to, and at, the event.

Well done everyone, and see you next year!
