Our very own squash superstar Remi Young was the only Western Australian who competed in the 2022 Canberra Open over the weekend.
Remi won his first match on Friday in a close five-setter against Robert Palmer (8-11, 11-5, 17-15, 6-11, 11-9). Remi fought hard in his second match on Saturday morning against 3rd seed, Dubai’s Sandeep Ramachandran who proved just too tough to beat (11-5, 11-8, 11-7). Saturday afternoon’s match was another tough one with Remi going down (but not without a fight) against 11th seed, Victoria’s Dylan Molinaro (12-10, 11-4, 14-12). “It was a tough match against Dylan – I just didn’t feel like i was playing my game, but it did highlight things I can improve on.”
In the 13th/14th play off, Remi took down 20th seed, Victoria’s Corben White in another nail-biter five-setter (9-11, 11-5, 11-8, 6-11, 11-9). “My last match was tough but I’m glad I got through it playing some better squash”.
Again, GREAT work Remi, everyone in WA is so proud of you – you really held your own.
