The WA State Masters tournament was held at the State Centre in Belmont on 18 and 19 July 2025.
This prestigious tournament has been running since 1982, a wonderful 44 years of history to date, with many notable winners. The tournament is unique in that players are age based rather than ability based, which means you may get to play anyone! This only occurs in Masters and Juniors on a yearly basis so is a truly special tournament.
2025 Tournament Summary
- We had 96 entries – 70 men / 26 women
- Titles were awarded for 19 of the possible 20 age divisions
- First time winners:
- Paula Thomson, Jo Hitch, Jo-Anna Ward, Terry Brookes, and Christine Reston
- Tom Jacobs, Phil Bradshaw, and George Fiorentino
- Notable milestones
- Ray Villarroya – 27th title, since 1995, so 27 out of 31 years!
- Sue Hiller – 14th title, but 11th title in a row (2015-2025)
- Khris Wiacek – 11th title
- Pam Butler – 10th title (welcome to the 10+ club!)
- Christine Reston – 5th title

- There have been 135 individual winners and 331 titles won in the Men’s competition.
- There have been 93 individual winners and 260 titles won in the Women’s competition.
- Ray Villarroya holds the record for the most titles (Men’s and all time) with 27.
- Joyce Barnett holds the record for the most titles (Women’s) with 17.
