2025 Great Southern Wheatbelt Teams

Thanks Katanning Squash Club

A whopping 120 individual players came from all corners of the state to compete in the 2025 Great Southern Wheatbelt Team Championships from 14 to 16 November.  Hosted by Katanning Squash Club this year, there were nine divisions, mostly featuring 4 teams of 3 people playing a round robin format.  The exception was division one which featured 2 pools of 3 teams, due to the high standard of entries received.

Matches kicked off late Friday afternoon and ran late into the night with a number of five-setters!  David McFall made wood-fired pizzas for the hungry crowd, and local band Winston Brothers entertained them, before everyone called it a night at roughly 11pm.  Saturday matches resumed bright and early at 9am and ran right through to 7.30pm.  The classic Tug of War rope made a reappearance in the evening which the squashies always love!  Saturday’s dinner was complemented by another band, hailing from Albany – Big Men Working.  What a treat!

One of the highlights from the weekend was the doubles match played by Jason Patmore and Cooper Kennedy, who faced off against Jordan McKellar and Dan Jones.  Patmore and Coops reigned victorious in the end.

Another highlight was the firefighting efforts of Club President Ryan McGrath, and Mirrabooka lads Daniel Richardson, Dan Jones, Kane Fasolo and Andy Jones.  A fiercely growing fire was noticed behind the Country Club near the tennis courts.  The gang of heroes worked together to put the fire out in no time, essentially saving the day.

Like any other event, it’s the generous volunteers from within the West Aussie squash community that keep the show running. Special thank you goes to:

Some other true MVPs are the amazing sponsors that dug deep to make this a ripper weekend:

Next year is set to be another weekend of fun, excitement, camaraderie and great squash, as Narrogin Squash Club takes the reins as host.
