2025 WA Closed

Thanks Josie Jones

Although the 2025 WA Closed didn’t attract quite as many entries as one could hope, it was a short and sweet weekend with some of the strongest competition in the state. From Friday evening all the way through to Saturday arvo, Belmont was pumping with action and an electric atmosphere.

We managed just over 70 players this year, with just short of half playing in two divisions – the whole weekend was chockers with everyone running around desperately trying to stay warm before having to jump straight back on court.

Our Men’s Open brought some fierce competition; we saw the return of Mike Corren as top seed to rekindle his rivalry with second seed Dave Ilich. However, the Ladies Open final would certainly be my pick for match of the tournament, Pascale Louka victorious in a mammoth five-set win over Jo Hitch.

A big thank you to our tournament referee Luke Jamieson and his right hand man Brad Grinter. Grinter also provided a lot of tech and moral support to me throughout the tournament so an extra special shout to him for lending some sand to my dumpster fire! Lee Ingham did an incredible job organising the canteen with her army of juniors, keeping bellies full throughout the event.

All in all, another successful tournament to just about close off 2025, thank you to all players and volunteers throughout and we look forward to seeing everyone next time!
