2024 Junior of the Year – Holly Bourn

ย

Holly has been a consistent presence at the Mirrabooka Squash Club junior program, always arriving with a gentle smile and a helping hand. Her attitude is impeccable, as she tirelessly assists other juniors on Thursday afternoons and volunteers in the kitchen at countless events.

Holly runs the group warm up for 35-40 kids across two courts each week.ย  Holly researches various ideas, considering how to make the warm up fun and different. During gameplay, Holly supervises the younger juniorsโ€™ scoring and refereeing, gently correcting them and explaining things when required.ย  As a result, Holly is highly respected by her peers.

Holly attended the October coaches course, demonstrating a commitment to continuing her service to juniors, and improving her skillset.

Holly has spent countless hours in the canteen during Country Week for two years in a row, as well as donating items she bakes herself.ย  Likewise, Holly helps the adult carers at Squashathon and brings items she has baked to share with others.

On the court, Holly plays fair and ensures that younger and less experienced players have fun.ย  She will offer tips and encouragement to opponents, no matter where theyโ€™re from.

Holly participates in the Wednesday in-house competition at Mirrabooka with adults, as well as Squash WA events such as Junior Pennants, tournaments and clinics.ย  This demonstrates that sheโ€™s not just about helping out โ€“ she has a genuine love for the sport!

Holly’s positive attitude and willingness to help is a shining example to the squash community of selflessness and should be commended. Her dedication to the club and the sport in general is exemplary, always going above and beyond what is asked of her.

Holly is patient, kind and thoughtful. She is ‘mother hen’ to any new junior from any club or walk of life, ensuring they never feel alone or frightened, not only within our junior program environment, but at events such as Squash WA junior pennants and Squashathon.

Holly is one of the best role models a club could have and gives her time willingly, for no other reason than to create a welcoming, safe space for all.
