Just Squash It

The Just Squash It program is offered to all high school groups and can be structured to suit both lower and upper school classes. Your students will receive a great introduction to a sport that offers so much for young people – it’s SUNSAFE, easy to learn, assists with the development of coordination and decision-making skills, but most of all is LOTS of FUN!

 

Schools attend their nearest squash centre for 7-10 weeks to play squash, and WA Squash provides a coach for the first three sessions.

 

Aims

• For the coach to cover the basic shots.
• Provide teachers with resource material and ideas for group work to continue the term (without the coach).
• At the end of the three weeks, students should be confident enough to play games in a safe manner.
• Provide coaching to develop squash skills.
• For students to be introduced to squash, with the hope that some students may take up the sport.
• Initiate and/or develop links with junior clubs
• Encouraging schools to enter the Squash Inter-school competition

 

Your nominated squash centre will charge a small fee per child to cover the cost of court, racquet and eyewear hire, however the qualified Coach will be provided free of charge by WA Squash.

 

While we prefer at least a seven-week commitment, we understand this is not always possible so can offer some alternative options:

• 1 – 3 sessions at a centre: Coach will attend first session only.
• 4 – 6 sessions at a centre: Coach will attend the first two sessions.

 

It is important that a teacher be available to be involved with each session.  It is considered that such involvement assists with the running of sessions and the teacher will also gain invaluable experience in how to run a Squash program.

 

Should your school require Public Liability insurance to a particular level, please confirm with your local Squash Centre that they hold cover that meets such requirement.

 

Sessions can be conducted at any time throughout the year, however it is recommended that you register your interest as early as possible to ensure suitable court bookings can be reserved.
