How old were you when you discovered squash and how did you get into it?
I started playing tennis at 8 years old. ย My mum introduced me to Cambridge juniors when I was 10, then at the age of 14 I had to make a decision about which sport to play as I was unable to do both. ย I had one tennis trophy and two for squashโฆ so squash won out!
What do you love most about the sport?
I have always loved competition and the challenge of squash. ย Squash is such a mental game that takes maturity and plenty of hours on court to work out what to do.ย Even having played for as long as I have, I’m still learning new skills which keeps me motivated. ย I love doing drills and have lots of people at Vic Park who are willing to hit with me, even as I get slower.ย ย The best part is all the friends I’ve made and I keep meeting so many fantastic people.

Why do you think more women should give it a go?
Women are such strong people, I think the game is suited to them. ย Women donโt have the same speed and strength as men, but we are good at problem solving. ย The game can be played anytime in any weather making it attractive for mums and busy people.ย ย Squash also has a great community and I think it’s important for our mental health to belong to a group.ย ย So to all the women out there – Give Squash a Go!
